Anchorage · Planned by Traveland
Traveland designs personal trips through Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city and the starting point for the glaciers of Kenai Fjords, the harbour town of Seward, the Alaska Railroad and Denali National Park, and handles every detail from the first conversation to your flight home. We are a family-owned travel agency in Connecticut, planning trips since 1978 as a member of the Signature Travel Network.

The regions
Most Alaska journeys begin or end in Anchorage, and the best days often start just outside the city. We plan the rail journeys, glacier cruises, lodges and flightseeing, and add time before or after an Alaska cruise.
A city framed by the Chugach Mountains, with the Anchorage Museum, the Alaska Native Heritage Center and floatplanes on Lake Hood.
Tidewater glaciers, sea otters and whales, seen on full-day cruises from Seward into the fjords.
A small harbour town about two and a half hours south by road or rail, with the Alaska SeaLife Center and Exit Glacier nearby.
Six million acres of wilderness around North America’s highest peak, with bears, caribou and moose along the park road.
Scenic rail journeys north to Talkeetna and Denali or south to Seward and Whittier, with dome cars for the views.
Glaciers, mountains and wildlife within reach of the city.
One advisor to shape every day around you.
Experiences
Every journey begins with what matters most to you.
Day cruises from Whittier and Seward past tidewater glaciers, waterfalls and sea lion colonies.
Bald eagles, bears, moose and whales, with guides who know where and when to look.
Remote lodges reached by small plane, with guided hiking, fishing and quiet mornings in the backcountry.
Northern lights, dog sledding and the Iditarod start each March, with skiing at Alyeska in nearby Girdwood.

Timing
Mid-May to mid-September is the main season for Anchorage, with long days, open roads and wildlife cruises. Late August and September bring fall color and the first northern lights, and winter is for snow, dog sledding and the aurora.
Lengthening days, migrating birds and the first cruises of the season in May.
Nearly endless daylight, wildlife cruises and the Alaska Railroad to Denali.
Golden tundra, fewer visitors and the return of dark skies for the northern lights.
Snowy mountains, dog sledding, skiing and the start of the Iditarod in March.
Questions
Mid-May to mid-September is best for glacier cruises, Denali and the Alaska Railroad. Winter is a good choice for the northern lights and snow activities.
No. Alaska is a U.S. state, so U.S. citizens need only a valid ID that meets REAL ID standards for domestic flights.
The Alaska Railroad takes about eight hours and is a highlight in itself, and the drive takes about four to five hours. We can also arrange a small-plane flight with a landing near the mountain.
Seven to ten days allows time for Anchorage, Seward and Kenai Fjords, and two or three nights near Denali.
Yes. Many cruises begin or end at Seward or Whittier, near Anchorage, and we plan land time before or after the cruise.
Anchorage is on Alaska Time, four hours behind Eastern Time.
