Questions

Questions travelers ask about Iceland

June to August is best for long days and road trips, while September to March is the season for the northern lights. Shoulder months offer a little of both.

Nonstop flights from the East Coast to Keflavik take about five to six hours. Many travelers add a stopover in Iceland on the way to Europe.

U.S. citizens can currently visit Iceland for short trips without a visa. Iceland is part of the Schengen Area and new European entry systems are being introduced, so we confirm the current requirements for your trip.

From about September to March, on clear and dark nights. Sightings are never guaranteed, so we plan several nights in the countryside to improve your chances.

The main Ring Road is well maintained, but weather changes quickly and winter driving can be difficult. We plan self-drive routes carefully or arrange a private driver guide.

Four to five days covers Reykjavik, the Golden Circle and the South Coast. Allow ten days or more to travel the full Ring Road.
