Questions

Questions travelers ask about Flanders

Flanders is the northern, Dutch-speaking region of Belgium. It includes the art cities of Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp, Leuven and Mechelen, and the capital, Brussels.

Five to seven days allows time for Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. Add a day or two for the World War I sites around Ypres. Distances are short, so trains work well.

Highlights include the Menin Gate in Ypres, where the Last Post is sounded every evening, Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest Commonwealth military cemetery in the world, and the In Flanders Fields Museum.

Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Peter Paul Rubens all worked here, and their paintings can be seen in the region’s museums and churches.

Yes. Belgian beer culture was added to UNESCO’s list of intangible cultural heritage in 2016. We can arrange brewery visits and tastings.

U.S. citizens need a valid passport and can generally visit Belgium for up to 90 days without a visa. Entry rules for Europe are changing, so we confirm the current requirements for your trip.
